Key Points:
- Elden Ring garners 3.4 Billion views on YouTube in the first two months of its release, a new world record.
- This record was previously owned by Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
- Analysts credit the success to the amazing directorial style of Hidetaka Miyazaki and the story penned by George R R Martin.
Two months after its release on 24 February 2022, Elden Ring has become the most-watched game on YouTube. After its viewership on the first two months was tallied and a statement released on 3 August 2022, Elden Ring has garnered 3.4 Billion views, earning the top spot as the most viewed video game on YouTube.
Till now, this record has been held by Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Both these games have had the first 60 days of viewership on YouTube. They have had 1.9 Billion views and 1.4 Billion views in the first 60 days, repetitively.
Video game analysts have linked the success and high viewership of this game to the involvement of Game of Thrones writer George R R Martin. Martin was called in by game director Hidetaka Miyazaki to write the story and the lore of the characters that constitute the world of the Lands In Between.
71.3% of the total views resulted from people watching normal Elden Ring YouTube videos, like Walkthrough videos and LetsPlay videos. When it comes to living streams, it resulted in 25.8% of the total views. YouTube shorts were also counted in, resulting in 2.72% of the tidal 3.5 million views.
