Kingston’s HyperX has already made its name in the market for delivering some of the best gaming peripherals for affordable prices. With a robust set of headsets, keyboards, mics, and more, HyperX is made for gamers. I can also say the same for the HyperX Cloud Revolver S gaming headset.
An upgrade over the original Cloud Revolver, this headset sports the latest 7.1 surround sound feature on the headset. How well does this sound for the price of $90 that you will be paying? Read this review to find out!

HyperX Cloud Revolver S Features
Design & Comfort
The only difference between the HyperX Cloud Revolver S and the standard HyperX Cloud Revolver is that the latter’s accents are white rather than red. They might not be readily recognized as gaming headphones due to their monochromatic color scheme and detachable mic.
The HyperX Cloud Revolver S headband is metal, while the hinges and yokes are sturdy-feeling plastic. The primary cable cannot be disconnected. However, because it is braided, it shouldn’t rip easily. The faux leather lining on the ear cups might eventually split, and their ski-band headband is rather loose.
These over-ears don’t hold up well. Even slight head movements can cause them to come off, but if you just intend to wear them while sitting at a computer, they should stay in place. The headphones’ non-detachable audio cord also has the potential to tangle with something and rip them off your head.
The HyperX Cloud Revolver 7.1 headphones have a respectable level of comfort. Their ear cups are thickly cushioned and lined with a soft material. Additionally, they don’t clamp your head too firmly. Their adjustable headband, however, is a touch flimsy, which might lead to the headset sagging and resting on your ears.
Noise Isolation & Leakage
This gaming headset’s ability to isolate noise could have been better. You can hear the low rumbling of buses and trucks and background conversation from close individuals since they almost eliminate ambient noise in the bass or midrange.
However, they effectively remove higher-pitched background noise, such as the hum of an air conditioner.
The HyperX Cloud Revolver S has acceptable performance in terms of audio leaking. If you listen to the material at a loud volume in a calm setting, others around could be mildly irritated by escaping audio. Still, you should only bother people in a relaxed area.
Controls
A simple inline remote is included with the HyperX Cloud Revolver 7.1. However, it can only be utilized when the USB adapter is attached.
The remote contains dedicated buttons for volume and mic level adjustment and a 7.1 surround sound activation input in the center of the controller, despite needing more controls for media playback or call management.
The buttons provide a nice tactile feel and are clicky. When the function is turned on, both the surround button and the mic button light red to mute the microphone. Sadly, there aren’t any auditory cues.
Microphone
Whenever I look for a gaming headset, I ensure it has a good-sounding mic. This is because gaming headsets should always have a good mic in this era of online multiplayer gaming. Here, in the case of the HyperX Cloud Revolver S, the mic does not disappoint.
I loved the style of this detachable boom mic regarding its recording quality. It’s pretty good. While playing Valorant with my friends, I prefer using Discord for voice chatting. Here, my friends say that my mic sounds good. Nothing extraordinary like actual mics, but better than your average gaming headset.
When I played some gameplay footage where I incessantly ranted to my teammates, I noticed my voice sounded thin. However, the level of clarity is significantly better than other headsets, like the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Wireless. Plus, it also handled noise better, which could have been due to Discord’s fantastic noise suppression system.
However, placing your mic too close to your mouth will also pick up the sound of your breath. Therefore, it might often sound like a strong gust of wind. So place it a few centimeters apart from your lips. But beware – adjusting its position will take a few tries.
Sound
Of all, all of it is only the cherry on top. Performance in video games is what it’s all about, and the HyperX Cloud Revolver S delivers.
However, the “7.1 surround sound” you believe you will get is not real since it’s impossible to do so in a headset. Instead, you will get a “virtual 7.1 surround sound” that emulates the authentic 7.1 surround sound of 7.1 speakers.
If you wish to know how big are the drivers in the HyperX Cloud Revolver S headset, then this headset features 50 mm drivers, producing terrific sound quality.
To put it frankly, the fake 7.1-channel surround sound didn’t allow me to accurately locate a footstep so I could quickly turn around and surprise sly opponents. However, it still provides good spatial sound, which is quite helpful for gaming.
Even in noisy surroundings, it is simple to differentiate sounds since the Dolby DSP performs an excellent job of dispersing noises. In Overwatch, we were defending the end of King’s Row. Despite the payload being nearby and engaged in combat, we could hear an enemy Reaper’s loud footsteps, get a general idea of where he was (sure enough, he was hiding on the balcony above), and alert my teammates in time to prevent an unpleasant surprise.
Additionally, we put the HyperX Cloud Revolver S to the test in Rainbow Six Siege. Sound cues are crucial to surviving and succeeding in Rainbow Six, and this headset did a great job of keeping me aware of my surroundings.
Call of Duty Vanguard’s surround sound did an excellent job of immersing me in the setting, giving me the impression that I was deep in the trenches, with snipers firing from the tower to my right and people throwing flaming grenades in my direction.
Final Verdict: Is The HyperX Cloud Revolver S Worth Buying In 2023?
The HyperX Cloud Revolver S is an outstanding headset that is designed for gaming but is capable of so much more. The broad soundstage produced by the 7.1-channel surround sound provided by the Dolby DSP is helpful for gaming and draws you into films and music. The sound quality continues to astound from the bass to the treble.
In addition to having outstanding audio quality, the HyperX Cloud Revolver 7.1 is also a superbly constructed headset, which accounts for its premium price. A comfortable, long-lasting headset with a luxury feel is made of metal, rubberized plastic, fake leather, and memory foam. This headset makes playing for ten hours alarmingly easy.
However, if you compare the HyperX Cloud II vs Revolver, then the Cloud II is still the winner at $102.
